Families of missing Azerbaijanis have been received by the European Union’s (EU) European External Action Service for the first time.
Axar.az reports that during a meeting held in Brussels on October 21, members of the Karabakh Missing Families Public Union met with Okke Bouwman, political adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, and Marco Cardinali, the EU coordinator for relations with Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, which lasted about an hour, the families said that Armenia had provided no information about the fate of their relatives, even after the conflict ended.
Konul Behbudova, chair of the public union, noted that on October 20, families of missing Azerbaijanis held a protest in Place du Luxembourg, in front of the European Parliament, and adopted a statement.
She stressed that Armenia bears direct responsibility for the fate of missing Azerbaijanis and must share information with Azerbaijan about the locations of mass graves.
Behbudova said that 32 mass graves had so far been discovered in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, describing them as only part of a major humanitarian tragedy.
The meeting also noted that families of missing Azerbaijanis held another protest on October 21 in central Brussels, at Schuman Square.
Representatives of the Karabakh Missing Families Public Union said they would continue their protests until the fate of their loved ones was clarified.
