Libya’s Audit Bureau suspends operations after armed raid

Libya’s Audit Bureau has suspended its operations until further notice after armed men stormed its headquarters in Tripoli and attempted to forcibly appoint a deputy chairman without a legal basis.

Axar.az reports, citing The Libya Observer, that the bureau’s chairman, members, and employees were subjected to an armed raid on October 21 following correspondence between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

The bureau said the incident endangered staff safety and undermined its independence and ability to carry out its duties freely.

It said operations would remain suspended until the relevant authorities were notified and the circumstances surrounding the incident were addressed.

The bureau stressed that it would not perform its duties under intimidation or armed coercion and vowed to pursue legal action against those responsible for the raid and any attempts to replace its leadership by force.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting state institutions and rejecting practices that threaten their integrity, independence and stability.
