At least three dead as storm drenches southern France

Heavy rain in southern France has caused significant flooding, killing at least three people and leaving thousands of homes without power.

Axar.az reports, citing dpa international, that the regional government said on Wednesday the storm had caused water levels to rise to "unprecedented" levels.

Three people had been killed and one injured in the storm, it said.

The newspaper La Provence, citing authorities, reported an 86-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman were found drowned in a cellar in Lancon-Provence. Additionally, a 75-year-old person died in the storms in Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts.

The regional government said some 250 people in Arles and Saint-Martin-de-Crau were being housed in evacuation centres.

Significant material damage had been observed, with roads and train lines blocked. Power and telephone lines were also down, it added.

The storm system Adam had already caused severe flooding in eastern Spain, leaving at least five dead.
