Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that, during talks with U.S. representatives held the previous day, Russia agreed to resume trilateral negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine to discuss security arrangements for Ukraine and Russia following a final peace agreement.
Axar.az informs, citing Russian media, at the same time, the Russian president stressed that these must be peace agreements “in their final form, rather than the result of a suspension of hostilities for a short period of time.”
“We are ready to resume these contacts to achieve this goal,” Putin stated.
The Russian leader also said he agreed that negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine and Russia, which Moscow is prepared to resume once a final peace agreement has been reached, should include discussions on the future architecture of European security.
“The representative of the U.S. administration [during Wednesday’s talks with the Russian president in St. Petersburg — ed.] pointed out that if we discuss issues related to ensuring future security for both Ukraine and Russia, then, naturally, we will also need to talk about the architecture of European security. I generally agree with this as well,” Putin said.
“Let us see how the situation develops over the coming days,” he added.
