EU chief condemns attack on vessel off Romania’s coast

European Council President Antonio Costa has expressed solidarity with Romania following an attack on a vessel off its coast in the Black Sea.

Axar.az reports that Costa shared the statement on his official X account, offering condolences to the victims’ families and praising the Romanian Coast Guard’s ongoing search-and-rescue efforts.

"The EU stands in full solidarity with Romania following this morning’s attack on a vessel off its coast. I express my sincere solidarity with the victims’ families and extend my heartfelt condolences.

I commend the Romanian Coast Guard for its ongoing search-and-rescue efforts," Costa stated.

He said attacks off the coasts of EU member states in the Black Sea were unacceptable and must stop.

"Attacks off the coasts of EU Member States in the Black Sea are increasing as a consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Such attacks are unacceptable and must stop," he said.

Costa also reaffirmed the EU’s opposition to Russia’s war against Ukraine and what he described as Moscow’s escalating hybrid campaigns.
