Guler: Turkiye does not foresee conflict with Houthis

Turkiye does not expect its potential military support to Saudi Arabia under the Mecca Agreement to lead to a confrontation with Yemen’s Houthi movement, Turkish Defense Minister Yashar Guler has said.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that Guler made the remarks while discussing the military role Turkiye could assume under the agreement signed by Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

“In this context, as in Qatar, the main purpose of our possible military support to Saudi Arabia will be to strengthen deterrence. We absolutely do not foresee entering into any conflict with the Houthis. Our priority is to prevent new tensions from emerging in the region and to contribute to security and stability,” Guler said.

He added that Turkiye would assess Saudi Arabia’s requests after the agreement is approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye and the necessary legal procedures and parliamentary authorization are completed. The scope of any support would be determined following that assessment.
