Israel, Greece hold joint naval drill in Mediterranean

The Israeli and Greek navies have conducted joint military exercises in the Mediterranean amid tensions with Turkiye.

Axar.az reports, citing The Times of Israel, that the exercise involved Israeli missile boats and naval vessels from several Greek units. It was led by Israeli Navy Chief Vice Adm. Eyal Harel and his Greek counterpart, Vice Adm. Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, alongside Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Gen. Dimitrios Choupis.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the forces simulated various operational scenarios, including identifying and countering maritime threats, sailing as a joint force, and sinking an enemy vessel with missile fire.

The Israeli military described the exercise as a significant step toward strengthening operational cooperation, joint readiness, and freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean.

The announcement came days after Turkiye and Libya ratified a maritime-boundaries agreement in the Mediterranean that Israel, Greece and several other countries oppose.
