Streeting: UK must be ready for war within 1,000 days

Britain must prepare for a potential war within the next 1,000 days as Russia intensifies its hybrid warfare against NATO, UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has warned.

Axar.az reports, citing The Telegraph, that Streeting said Britain’s adversaries could be capable of attacking the country by 2030, urging the government to strengthen its military capabilities and readiness alongside allies.

“By 2030 their force strength and war economy could put them in a position to attack. That gives us a little over 1,000 days to complete our mission: to be ready with our allies to fight and win,” Streeting said.

He said the country must expand its defense capabilities to deter potential attacks and ensure it could fight and win a war if deterrence failed.

The UK has increasingly focused on strengthening its defense capabilities as NATO members assess the security risks posed by Russia and seek to improve their readiness for potential conflict.

“This Government is already delivering the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the end of the Cold War. I am 100 per cent confident that under this Labour Prime Minister and Chancellor we will meet our Nato spending target,” he added.
