Bolsonaro flees to U.S. after losing Brazil election

Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has left the country for the United States after losing Sunday’s presidential election and failing to comply with a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports.

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that Bolsonaro was ordered on Monday to hand over his passports within 24 hours as part of a money laundering investigation. He denies any wrongdoing. The deadline has since expired, and his travel documents have been canceled.

Bolsonaro lost the election to incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. He has not formally conceded defeat and said on Sunday he would seek to annul the results over alleged voter irregularities. His Liberal Party, however, acknowledged Lula’s victory on Monday.

A senior Brazilian Federal Police official said Bolsonaro had not left the country through any regular migration checkpoint.
