Palestinian president visits Greek Cyprus for talks

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has visited Greek Cyprus for talks with Greek Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that Abbas held a meeting with Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia during a two-day working visit on October 29.

Abbas’s visit will last from October 29 to 30.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Cypriot administration criticized Abbas’ visit, saying it disregarded the will of the Turkish Cypriot people, despite their support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

"In line with this strong historical solidarity, we would like to emphasize our expectation that the legitimate rights and sensitivities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus be taken into account.

In light of the reality that there are two distinct peoples and two separate states on the island, this visit, carried out while disregarding the will of the Turkish Cypriot people, has been met with regret by the Turkish Cypriot people," the statement said.
