It has been nearly five years since this war began. This war is no longer sustainable. Therefore, Russia and Ukraine must reach an agreement, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said, while calling for a renewed relationship between Moscow and Europe.
Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency, that Fidan stressed that a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv would have implications beyond the two countries.
“These costs must now be brought to an end. It has been nearly five years since this war began. This war is no longer sustainable. Therefore, Russia and Ukraine must reach an agreement. After peace is achieved, constructive relations between Europe and Russia need to be redefined. Because the peace Ukraine reaches with Russia will not be limited to the two countries. Europe and Russia also need, in a sense, to reconcile and resume certain relations,” he said.
Fidan also expressed concern over disruptions to commercial shipping in the Black Sea, saying that Russian and Ukrainian grain and energy supplies were struggling to reach international markets.
“This situation needs to be brought to an end as soon as possible. We are maintaining very extensive and intensive contacts on this matter. In particular, we are making serious efforts to ensure that grain can be shipped out through the Black Sea and reach international markets. I hope this war will also come to an end. Many people are dying, and the cost is very high. Both the economic and geostrategic costs are substantial,” he said.
Fidan also warned that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz had compounded the economic consequences of the Ukraine war, calling for the dispute between the United States and Iran to be resolved and critical international trade routes reopened.
