Pyongyang tests new cluster-bomb warhead

North Korea has tested a cluster-bomb warhead designed for tactical ballistic missiles, with state media claiming it can devastate an area of up to 13 hectares.

Axar.az reports, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), that the test was conducted by the country’s Missile Administration on October 31 to assess the warhead’s combat performance and destructive power.

The test was overseen by General Kim Jong Sik, a member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea and first vice department director of its Central Committee.

According to the Missile Administration’s Ballistic Missile System Institute and Warhead Institute, the Standard Type 2 cluster-bomb warhead demonstrated the ability to cover a target area of 12 to 13 hectares with its highest-density destructive power.

The general director of the Missile Administration said the country had classified cluster-bomb warheads into four categories based on their special and standard purposes.
