Kyiv denies agreeing to pause strikes on Russian refineries

Ukraine has never agreed to suspend attacks on Russian oil refineries, Ukrainian officials have told the Kyiv Independent.

Axar.az reports, citing the publication, that The Wall Street Journal claimed on October 29 that Ukraine had agreed to halt strikes on Russian refineries until after the US midterm elections, potentially extending the pause into November.

However, Ukrainian officials denied the report, saying that although US envoy Jared Kushner had proposed a temporary suspension, Kyiv had never accepted the proposal.

“Jared suggested that we not hit refineries for 30 days,” a senior Ukrainian official told the Kyiv Independent, adding that “Nobody had given such an order.”

Another senior Ukrainian official said Kyiv would continue targeting Russian oil infrastructure but would avoid publicly claiming responsibility for the attacks to prevent tensions with the Trump administration.

It should be noted that Ukraine had suspended attacks on Russian oil refineries at the request of US President Donald Trump. However, the Ukrainian side later announced that it had resumed the strikes because Russia had intensified attacks on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
