Azerbaijan’s Media Council condemns attacks on journalists

"The recent attacks on media representatives while filming at incident sites, the application of physical violence against them, and the creation of obstacles to their professional activities cause serious concern. Such actions that threaten the safety of journalists also interfere with the public's right to obtain information about events of public importance,” Azerbaijan’s Media and Broadcasting Council said in a statement.

Axar.az reports that “Pursuant to Article 6 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media," any unlawful interference in the professional activities of journalists, pressure exerted on them, and their persecution are unacceptable.

The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns cases of violence against journalists and the creation of obstacles to their lawful professional activities, expresses confidence that the incidents that have occurred will be investigated promptly, thoroughly, and objectively, and calls on everyone to respect the lawful activities of media representatives and to comply with their right to perform their professional duties safely, freely, and without hindrance,” the statement added.
