Latvia takes UN Security Council presidency for first time

Latvia has assumed the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for the first time in its history, with Ukraine and emerging technologies among its key priorities for November.

Axar.az reports, citing Latvia's Foreign Ministry, that the country took over the one-month presidency on November 1 and will chair all formal and informal council meetings.

Latvia's priorities include keeping Russia's war against Ukraine high on the Security Council's agenda and addressing the impact of new technologies on international peace and security.

The ministry also said the first meeting of the newly established Informal Expert Group on Technology, Peace and Security, launched by Latvia and Greece, would take place during the country's presidency.
