Ten detained over coup plot in western Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan's National Security Committee has detained 10 people suspected of plotting to forcibly change the constitutional order in the country's western region.

Axar.az reports, citing TengriNews, that the suspects were members of an extremist group accused of promoting terrorism and inciting religious hatred.

According to the report, members of the criminal group planned to forcibly change the foundations of the constitutional order in western Kazakhstan.

During searches, authorities seized weapons, drugs, religious paraphernalia, literature and other evidence. They also shut down three underground educational centres for children and teenagers established by the group.

Several members of the group had previously been convicted of terrorist offences and other criminal offences.
