Hungarian fighter jet escorts Wizz Air flight after bomb threat

A Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Sofia was diverted to Budapest on Monday following a bomb threat, with a Hungarian Gripen fighter jet scrambled to escort the aircraft.

Axar.az reports, citing the Independent, that Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi said the fighter jet took off within minutes after NATO issued an ALPHA alert and ensured the passenger plane landed safely.

The aircraft, which landed at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, was directed to a designated stand for security checks.

Wizz Air confirmed that authorities inspected the aircraft and passengers. Police subsequently launched additional security measures.
