Poland's UN ambassador to end diplomatic mission early

Poland's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Krzysztof Szczerski, will end his diplomatic mission ahead of schedule later this month.

Axar.az reports that Poland's Foreign Ministry spokesman Maciej Wewior has confirmed the development in a post on his X account.

"Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski asked Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to shorten his diplomatic mission to the United Nations. Minister Sikorski approved the request. Ambassador Szczerski will conclude his mission later this month," Wewior wrote.

Szczerski has not yet publicly explained the reasons for his decision.

He has served as Poland’s permanent representative to the UN since 2021. Before that, he headed the International Policy Bureau in the administration of former President Andrzej Duda.

Szczerski’s decision comes amid other personnel disagreements within Polish diplomacy. On the night of October 30–31, Poland’s ambassadors to China and Romania also announced that they did not intend to continue in their posts.

They linked their decisions to disagreements with the government’s position in the dispute surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal.
