On Monday US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Oliver Blanco at the State Department to discuss the political situation in Venezuela and progress in reconciliation efforts.

Axar.az reports according to the US State Department, Rubio reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s three-phase plan for Venezuela, which includes stabilization, economic recovery and political reconciliation, followed by a democratic transition.

The two officials discussed progress in Venezuelan-led reconciliation talks, including institutional reforms aimed at laying the groundwork for free, fair and credible elections.

Rubio also called for the continued release of political prisoners in Venezuela.
