Former Zelensky spokeswoman Mendel charged with treason

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) and the Prosecutor General's Office have issued a notice of suspicion against former presidential press secretary Yuliia Mendel on charges of high treason and justifying Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Axar.az reports, citing the SBU, that the charges include high treason committed under martial law and justifying, recognising as lawful or denying Russia's armed aggression, as well as glorifying those involved in it.

Investigators allege that Mendel used public statements and social media posts to discredit Ukraine internationally and justify the Kremlin and its full-scale war against the country.

As Mendel is outside Ukraine, authorities said measures were underway to bring her to justice.

The investigation is being conducted by the SBU under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office. Mendel is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
