Turkiye and Iraq agree to end PKK presence in Sinjar

Turkiye and Iraq have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring full state authority in Sinjar and ending the presence of the PKK, according to a joint statement released on Sunday.

Axar.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency, that the two countries welcomed steps taken by Iraqi authorities to restore state control in the area, in line with an agreement reached by their leaders on September 23, 2026.

Turkiye also announced plans for the gradual handover of the Bashiqa-Zilkan military base to the Iraqi federal government.

The sides further agreed to activate a Joint Security Coordination Committee to monitor and verify progress in efforts to end the PKK's presence in Sinjar.
