Russiano comes to menus

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s suggestion that coffee Americano should be renamed "Russiano" may soon add a new hit to Russian restaurant menus.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s suggestion that coffee Americano should be renamed "Russiano" may soon add a new hit to Russian restaurant menus, Igor Bukharov, the head of the country’s Federation of Restaurateurs & Hoteliers told.

Medvedev was attending the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Moscow on Wednesday when he rebuked one of meeting participants who had asked for an Americano.

"Actually, this is not politically correct at all. Let's rename Americano to Russiano!" Medvedev stated.
Bukharov said Russiano would hardly differ from Americano and suggested a unique recipe with the addition of sweetened condensed milk, a national favorite.

"We have an Italian culture of coffee drinking. Therefore, it was named Russiano instead of cafe a la russe," he added.
According to Bukharov, Burger King had already renamed Americano to Russiano for their Russian menus.
He also mentioned the recent trend to give Russian names to popular food and drinks.

"For example, some bars have renamed their B-52 cocktails to Su-34," Bukharov added.
