Erdogan: Gulen movement finances Clinton’s campaign

The movement of Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen, suspected by Ankara of masterminding the July coup attempt in Turkey, took part in funding the election campaign of US Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"What sources were used to finance her [Clinton’s] election campaign? Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, which we fight against in Turkey, was one of those structures which provided the US Democratic party with considerable support," Erdogan said in an interview with the Israeli television channel Arutz 2.

Erdogan stressed that US President-elect Donald Trump conducted his election campaign at the expense of his own funds.

According to Erdogan, Trump’s victory marked the beginning of a new stage for the United States and the US protests were the manifestations of disrespect for democracy.
