Moldova to hold runoff election for president

Moldova’s runoff presidential election will be held on November 13, the country’s Central Election Commission said on Wednesday.

Along with the date for the runoff election, the Central Election Commission approved results of the Sunday vote.

Socialist Party leader Igor Dodon, who calls for the revival of a strategic partnership with Russia, won 47.98% (680,550 votes), while his rival Maia Sandu, the leader of the Action and Solidarity Party and nominee of Moldova’s pro-European parties, including the ruling Democratic Party, chalked up 38.71% (549,152 votes).

Both candidates have recognized the results and are in preparations for the runoff election.
