Police in Antalya, Turkey, detained the ex-chief of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security staff, Maksut Karal, due to his alleged links to the movement of Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen (FETO).

Axar.az reports that, Ankara has accused FETO of masterminding the July coup attempt. Karal was first detained in December during a police operation related to illegal gold mining, but was later released, according to CNN Turk. On Wednesday, Karal was detained and charged with having links to FETO, the broadcaster said. Karal was reported to have retired in October.
