Masharipov asks son to become suicide bomber

Abdulkadir Masharipov, who was arrested on Saturday as the prime suspect in a Jan. 1 massacre at the Reina nightclub in İstanbul, asks his son to become a suicide bomber when he grows up, in a video included in his will, news website Diken reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the video, dated December 27, was found in his email account. In the video Masharipov says he will carry out a suicide attack and asks his children not to create problems for their mother, Zarina Nurullayeva, and also asks his son to become a suicide bomber when he grows up.

The video was recorded by Nurullayeva. A voice recording of Yasser Mohammed Salem Radown, an Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) member in Turkey, was also found on Masharipov’s laptop.

Masharipov, who killed 39 people and wounded 69 others on New Year’s Day at a popular İstanbul nightclub, said during interrogation that he received the order for the attack from the ISIL leader in Syria by means of the Telegram messaging service.
Masharipov said the head of ISIL in Syria called him to ask for a potential suicide bomber and then offered one to carry out the attack. Later, a man code-named “Abu Jihad” sent him the instructions.
