US airstrike in Afghanistan's eastern Nangahar province killed the media director of the ISIS terror group, US forces said late Friday.

Axar.az reports citing Daily Sabah.

Jawad Khan's death "will disrupt the [ISIS] network, degrade their recruitment process and hinder their attempts to conduct international operations," General John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, said in a statement.

The strike on June 3 targeted a major terrorist "hub" in Achin district, cutting their communications and connections to the ISIS group in Syria, the US said.

US and Afghan forces have been battling ISIS terrorists in Nangarhar province since the group's emergence there in January 2015.

In April, the US dropped a massive bomb on an ISIS tunnel complex in Nangarhar, which the Afghan Defense Ministry said killed more than 90 terrorists.
