The details of the death of the Chechen rebel commander known as Khattab has been revealed.

Axar.az reports citing Rosbalt.

The terrorist was killed by a poisoned letter slipped him by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). One of the couriers, who occasionally received letters for Khattab and sent them through a special chain, agreed to cooperate with the special services. When he got a letter from Saudi Arabia in 2002, a specialist on poisons laced the letter with a form of sarin, a nerve agent.

According to one of Khattab's personal bodyguards, the terrorist burned the letter after he read it. The poison began to affect on the third day, as a result of which Khattab died on March 20, 2002.
