Erdogan proved his independence - Russian scientist

Turkey's acquisition of S-400 systems, despite US pressure, showed that Erdogan was acting independently.

Axar.az reports this was stated by Russian orientalist, Doctor of Historical Sciences Irina Zvyagelskaya. He said that the purchase of S-400 systems was important for Turkey not only in terms of strengthening national security but also politically:

"Because Erdogan had to show that he could make a serious decision, despite his commitments on NATO membership. But we should not think that Turkey will ever leave NATO. NATO membership will be Turkey's priority in any situation."
