New sanctions introduced by the United States against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project are hostile actions and blatant disregard of fair competition norms, official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova says at a briefing on Thursday.

"Hostile actions against participants in Nord Stream 2 construction, and these can be qualified in exactly such fashion , confirm that the US is pursuing its own energy interests and want in all kinds of ways to consolidate itself in the Old World as the primary, legitimate supplier, as they believe," Zakharova says. "This is simply an undisguised disregard of fair competition standards," she noted.
