First female Treasury secretary in U.S. history

The US Senate has approved the appointment of Janet Yellen as finance minister.

Axar.az reports this information was spread by the Guardian newspaper.

Yellen said his main job as a minister would be to fight the effects of COVID-19.

"We have to make sure that people in America don't go hungry. They should not lose their homes and be thrown into the streets."

Yellen previously chaired the US President's Economic Advisory Board, as well as the Federal Reserve. She is the first woman in American history to be appointed Secretary of the Treasury.
