27 EU countries have decided to impose new sanctions on Russia in connection with Alexei Navalny.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

"We have reached a political agreement to impose sanctions on those responsible for Navalny's arrest," Borrell said.

Borrell said that for the first time, sanctions will be imposed on Russia under the human rights violation mechanism.
