UN appeal to Israel

Israeli security forces must allow freedom of speech, organization and assembly.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from UN Commissioner for Human Rights Rupert Colville.

"We condemn all forms of violence, incitement to violence, ethnic discrimination and provocation. The treatment of those who do not protest - only those who pray or break their fast - is completely unjustified by security forces. No force should be used against those who exercise their rights peacefully," Colville said.

He expressed concern about the impact of violence on children:

"Detained children should be released and tensions should be reduced."
