The rules for Schengen visas are being improved

The Council of the European Union has amended the Visa Information System (VIS) to improve the issuance of Schengen visas.

Axar.az reports that it was decided to increase the number of applications for short-term Schengen visas due to concerns about migration and security. Now this innovation must be approved by the European Parliament.

The main purpose of the latest amendment is to make the rules for issuing short-stay visas more secure, to include long-term visas and residence permits in the VIS database, and to ensure transactions between VIS and other relevant databases, as well as between systems. For example, from now on, biographical information in travel documents will be transferred to VIS.

Individuals will undergo a thorough check of security and migration databases before a visa or residence permit is issued.
