The announcement by the United States to impose new sanctions on the North Stream-2 gas pipeline was an expected step.
Axar.az reports that the statement came from Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Russian Federation Council. Commenting on the differences in relations between the two countries, he cited the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference in Geneva.
He said Putin had no new illusions after meeting with his American counterpart.
"We tend to see such summits as the beginning of a new phase in relations. But Washington is taking a different approach. Biden's leadership initially ruled out the possibility of a 'reconstruction' of relations and made no secret of its intention to prevent North Stream 2 from launching. could not prevent its construction," Pushkov said.
He said the White House had never indicated the possibility of lifting or partially changing the sanctions.
