French President Emmanuel Macron has insulted British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Axar.az reports that Macron called Johnson a "clown who runs a big country" amid the migration crisis in the English Channel.

"It's sad to see a clown at the head of a big country where we can do a lot of work together," Macron said.

London was quick to respond to Macron's statement. In response to the French leader's remarks, the British prime minister's spokesman recommended that all efforts be made to prevent further casualties.

Relations between Macron and Johnson deteriorated after the latter offered him an open letter to combat illegal migration. In response, Macron criticized Johnson, saying that the country's leaders did not communicate via Twitter or open letter.
