Houses of 38 politicians were set on fire in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, protesters set fire to the homes of 38 politicians.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Sri Lankan police.

In addition to the burned houses, 75 houses were damaged.

The country of 22 million people is struggling with a devastating economic crisis, with rising commodity prices and a power outage for weeks. Thousands have taken to the streets since March to demand the resignation of the government. The Defense Ministry has ordered troops to shoot anyone who damages government property or attacks officials. Military forces were deployed in the city to disperse the protesters, and video footage showed police using tear gas and water cannons. In total, more than 200 people were injured during the riots.
