Finland's application for NATO membership is a historic step.

Axar.az reports the statement came from Council of Europe President Charles Michel.

"The unity and solidarity of NATO and the European Union have never been so close. Finnish President Sauli Niiniste and Prime Minister Sanna Marin pave the way for Finland's accession to NATO. It is a historic step that will make a significant contribution to Europe's security. "This is also a strong deterrent, as Russia is waging war in Ukraine."
