The Turkish government has decided to cancel and postpone some NATO military exercises in the Black Sea.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavushoghlu.

Cavushoghlu explained Ankara's move by the provisions of the Montreux Convention, which prohibits warships from anchoring in the Black Sea.

The minister said that the convention gives Turkey the right to impose a complete ban on the passage of warships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles in exceptional cases.
