In order not to irritate Russia, Georgia was not given the status of a candidate for EU membership.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Georgian expert Ramaz Sakvarelidze.

"It simply came to our notice then. A manoeuvre that does not force Europe towards Ukraine ... Ukraine will remain a candidate for a long time. And the perspective talks about us do not make sense," he said.

The expert added that at this stage, neither the status of a candidate gives anything to Georgia, nor the European perspective:

"So it is possible that Europe told Russia that we are not irritating you. Not irritating Russia has recently been one of Europe's main tasks. They even came to Kyiv because of Zelensky and wanted to convince him on favourable terms with Russia. But it was not taken."

According to the expert, at the same time, it was decided that Moldova and Ukraine were separate, and Georgia is separate.
