The person who attacked Rushdie: I respect Khomeini

I respect Ruhollah Khomeini, the former Supreme Leader of Iran.

Axar.az reports that this was said by Hadi Matar, who was accused of attacking Salman Rushdie.

According to Matar, he only read a few pages of The Satanic Verses and decided to attend after learning on Twitter that Salman Rushdie would be at the Chautauqua Institute.

He said that he did not like Salman Rushdie and that he disrespected Islam and the beliefs of Muslims.

Matar did not say whether he was guided by Khomeini's fatwa regarding the attack on Rushdie.
