Novikov: As Azerbaijan grows stronger, Iran is afraid

Baku is becoming more and more active. After the second Karabakh war, Azerbaijan, as they say, felt its strength. Azerbaijan moves actively, sometimes even aggressively. It receives the support of Turkiye and defends its rights and claims more and more actively.

Axar.az reports the head of the Caucasus Department of the Institute of CIS Countries, Vladimir Novikov stated this.

"Tehran is worried about Azerbaijanis living in Iran. The stronger Azerbaijan is, the closer its relations with Turkiye are, there will be a higher desire to unite with Azerbaijan within Iran. Relations between Iran and Azerbaijan will continue to worsen. It is possible that all contact between Baku and Tehran will be broken. I do not rule out military escalation. For example, there may be a clash on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border in the Nakhchivan region," he said.
