A draft resolution was submitted to the UN to cancel the chairmanship of the Public Assembly of the Human Rights Council of Iran.
Axar.az reports that UN observer and lawyer Hillel Neuer wrote about this on his Twitter account.
"Electing Iran as the chairman of this organization is an insult to the human rights organization. We will not tolerate this injustice," he said.
The draft resolution noted the Iranian government's violations of human rights and repression of citizens during protests.
Also, a petition was signed to remove Iran from the chairmanship of the mentioned institution.
Currently, 74,000 people have signed the petition. After the number of signatures reaches 100,000, it will be sent to the world leaders.
It should be noted that the appointment of Iran's ambassador to the UN office in Geneva, Ali Bahrain, as the head of the Public Assembly of the Human Rights Council of this institution on May 10 led to protests by human rights organizations.
