French President Emmanuel Macron, who played an important role in the election of Ursula von der Leyen as head of the European Commission (EC) five years ago, is now negotiating with EU leaders to find another candidate for this position.

Axar.az reports that "Bloomberg" published information about this.

It is noted that, less than two months before the European Parliament elections, Macron discussed with EU prime ministers, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the possibility of electing former European Central Bank (ECB) president Mario Draghi to the main position in the EU.

The publication notes that Leyen is particularly grappling with discontent over trade negotiations, climate change, and relations with the United States. Emmanuel Macron publicly criticized his actions and said:

"The chairmanship of the commission is designed to protect common interests, so it cannot be over-politicized."

The publication notes that regardless of Macron's maneuvers, Leyen remains the clear favorite in the election race.
