Turkiye and Greece have agreed on the construction of a new bridge connecting the checkpoints of the two countries over the Merich River.

Axar.az reports that the construction of a new 811-meter four-lane bridge will begin this year.

The structure will operate alongside the old two-lane bridge built in 1958.

Yunis Sezer, the governor of Turkiye's Edirne province bordering Greece, said that the existing bridge could no longer cope with Turkiye's growing international trade volume, and in this regard, the authorities of the two countries have decided to implement a new transport project.

Construction works will be financed by both countries.
