Georgia's ambassador to France, Gocha Javakhishvili, resigned due to the law on foreign agents.

Axar.az reports that "News Georgia" published information about this.

"The situation and mood in relations with our friends and foreign partners regarding the reincarnation of the draft law (On Transparency of Foreign Influence") make my mission as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the French Republic and Monaco extremely difficult. Accordingly, I have already directly addressed my superiors with a request for early termination of my current position," the diplomat said in a statement.

He emphasized that his decision was not a political demarche for someone's benefit or detriment.

"After much hesitation, I want to get rid of the burden that I think I can no longer handle," the ambassador said.

It should be noted that despite serious dissatisfaction and pressure from the West, the draft law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" was adopted in the second reading in the Georgian Parliament.
