The US plans to deploy 48 fifth-generation F-35A fighters to Japan over the next few years.
Axar.az reports that Yoshimasa Hayashi, Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers, told journalists about this at a press conference.
According to him, 48 F-35A and 36 F-16 fighters will be deployed at Misawa Air Force base in Japan in the next few years. At the same time, they will replace the F-16s and F-15s stationed at Misawa, respectively:
"We see this as a step aimed at further enhancing both the capabilities of the US Armed Forces and the deterrence and response potential of the Japan-US alliance."
