As we reported, in the 13th presidential elections held in Iran, the Azerbaijani candidate Masoud Pezeshkian won with 53.6 percent of votes and was elected the 9th president of the country.

Axar.az Masoud Pezeshkian was born on September 29, 1954 in the Soyugbulag (Mahabad) region of West Azerbaijan province in an Azerbaijani family. In 1973, he went to Zabul to perform his military service, and after completing his service, he returned to his hometown - Tabriz. Pezeshkian, whose last name means "doctors" in Persian, graduated from the medical faculty of Tabriz University.

During the Iran-Iraq war, he often visited the front line, sent medical personnel there, and was responsible for acting as a soldier and doctor.

In 1985, Pezeshkian started teaching physiology at the medical school.

After the war, he continued his studies at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, majoring in general surgery. In 1993, he studied cardiac surgery at Iran University of Medical Sciences. In 1994, he worked as the rector of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences for 5 years.

As for his personal life, Pezeshkian, who lost his wife, a gynecologist, and one child in a car accident in 1993, has never married since then, raising 2 sons and 1 daughter alone.

His political activity began in 1997 when he joined the administration of Mohammad Khatami as an assistant minister of health. Pezeshkian was promoted to the post of Minister of Health after 4 years. He worked in this position in 2001-2005. Pezeshkian, who was elected as the Tabriz representative of the Iranian Parliament 5 times, served as the first deputy speaker of the Parliament in 2016-2020.

He is also a member of Iran-Turkiye Friendship Association.

At the open session of the parliament on February 26, 2016, Pezeshkian said that God made him a Turk, that no one has the right to mock the language and culture of the Turks, and that it is important for Turks and other ethnic groups in Iran to be able to write and speak in their own language according to Article 15 of the constitution. spoke about it.

At the same time, on the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, he was one of the MPs who protested against the removal of a poster with the words "Karabakh is Armenia, that's all" during Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's visit to Tehran and his meeting with the Armenian community at the "Ararat" club.

M. Pezeshkian is known as a "Tractor" fan.

In 2013, M. Pezeshkian, who nominated for the presidency of Iran, later withdrew his candidacy. In 2021, when he tried to participate in the next election, his candidacy was rejected this time.

Finally, in the extraordinary presidential elections held in 2024, he won the presidential seat, surpassing other rivals.
