On July 13, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received OSCE Secretary General Mrs. Helga Maria Schmid.

Axar.az reports that Helga Maria Schmid, who conveyed her congratulations on the occasion of the holding of COP29 in Azerbaijan and emphasized that she will participate in this event, said that within the framework of COP29, close cooperation between our country and the OSCE is being implemented.

The head of state noted that Azerbaijan will hold numerous events related to COP29.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he will continue his efforts to build bridges and strengthen general solidarity between various parties, such as the previous chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement of Azerbaijan and currently in the "Troika" of this organization, as well as a country with close relations with the European Union.

The head of state talked about the green transition policy of our country and the measures taken in this direction. President Ilham Aliyev said that developing small island states are one of the priority directions in Azerbaijan's agenda and stated that together with the "Commonwealth" organization, work is being done to create a special fund for small island states.

The issue of regional connections was discussed at the meeting.

Touching on the importance of the Caspian Sea and Black Sea green corridor project, Helga Maria Shmid emphasized that the green ports project is of special importance in the agenda of the OSCE and stated that she will visit Alat International Sea Trade Port as part of her visit to our country.

The guest said that a regional environmental monitoring center had been created and touched on issues of cooperation in this context. As a whole, he emphasized that economy and environmental issues are important in the agenda of the OSCE and that these projects contribute to confidence building.

During the conversation, views were exchanged on issues of the regional peace agenda.

The head of state emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to the peace agenda and noted the importance of making changes to the Armenian constitution and putting an end to territorial claims against Azerbaijan on a constitutional basis in order to sign a peace treaty.

Helga Maria Schmid touched on humanitarian demining activities.

President Ilham Aliyev said that as a result of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan and occupation of lands, the country's territories were massively polluted with mines, and emphasized that about 370 incidents occurred, and a large number of people were killed and injured as a result of mine explosions.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on issues on the agenda of the OSCE.
