Hamas elected a new leader to replace Haniyeh

Yahya al-Sinwar was elected the new head of the Political Bureau of the Hamas movement.

Axar.az reports citing foreign media.

"The Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement announces that Yahya al-Sinwar has been elected as the head of the movement's Political Bureau in place of the murdered Ismail Haniyeh," the Hamas statement said.

Before that, Sinwar was the leader of the movement in the Gaza Strip.

It should be noted that Ismail Haniyeh died as a result of an attack on the night of July 30-31 at his residence in Tehran after attending the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
